For a once in a lifetime journey, this tour takes in the cream of Portugal’s countryside, coast and city razzmatazz, with the best of our luxury boutique hotels thrown in.

Fly to Porto in the north and begin by exploring the wine-making country around the city. Stay at 3 nights at The Vine House, a favourite quirky retreat with a timeless quality. Unwind and relax at the pool or on one of the nearby beaches, take a cookery course or go wine-tasting. If you’re lucky, you’ll stumble on one of the many local festivals that add such colour and flare to this undiscovered region.

Then head south along the Silver Coast to Coimbra, the elegant university town, where you’ll stay 2 nights at the luxury Coimbra Palace. Famous for the romantic legend of Prince Pedro and his forbidden lover, which played out in the palace’s own botanic gardens, this boutique hotel still exudes a romantic opulence today. If you stay in the period-style King Suite you’ll be following in the footsteps of many aristocratic noblemen. Or opt for the sleek lines of one of the contemporary rooms in the new spa building.

Move south again to Lisbon. Portugal’s capital can’t fail to seduce its visitors. Built over seven hills rising from the River Tejo, stunning views hit you at every turn and you can explore on foot or by the bright yellow trams. Stay 3 nights in the bohemian Bairro Alto district at the hip Lisbon Boutique Hotel. Choose one of the sumptuous suites for decadent luxury on a grand scale, with vintage roll-top baths for utter indulgence. The area is a mecca for artists and poets and comes to life at night, with trendy eateries, clubs and bars.

Your next 3 nights are south of Lisbon on the Alentejo coast, where achingly beautiful, deserted golden sands, flower-carpeted countryside, crashing surf and tranquil lagoons await you. Meandering rivers snake through the hills with rickety windmills on their crests and sugarcube towns dotted on their banks. Stay at the Portugal River Ranch, a fantastic boutique hotel with exquisitely decorated self-catering apartments and sumptuous double rooms. Soak up the sun on one of the many nearby beaches where the more adventurous can learn to surf or canoe. Bike or horse-ride through the Eucalyptus groves, take a jeep safari in the national park or a romantic boat ride along the coast.

Finally, turn south again to the cosmopolitan Algarve coast. A golfers’ paradise, the Algarve boasts around 30 golf courses with hallmark rolling greens and sea views. Opt for 3 nights at the Algarve Riad. Set in lush gardens near the coast, this luxury hotel has its own golf facilities and resident golf pro, whilst non-golfers can pamper themselves in the excellent spa and enjoy cookery lessons at the gourmet restaurant. If it’s a special trip, book the Visir Suite; an Arabian delight with its own garden and outdoor hottub.

Head home from Faro airport.

Don’t forget, all our holidays in Portugal are tailor-made, so you can opt to stay for longer or shorter periods in each place, add other regions to the itinerary or miss out certain parts all together. You can also choose different hotels from our selection in each region if you prefer.
