Heavenly beaches and the best of our luxury boutique hotels are the order of the day on this “kick-back and relax” tour.
Fly into Faro and start your holiday with 3 nights on the Algarve. With glorious sandy beaches, picturesque white-washed towns and a long sunny season from March to November, this cosmopolitan area is hard to beat. Stay in our favourite seaside town at the stunning Tavira Friary, the latest boutique hotel to set the cognoscenti chattering. Opt for one of their suites and you’ll enjoy luxury period surroundings, with huge beds, squishy duvets, crisp white linen and your own garden or terrace. Amble through the cobbled streets to the elegant shops and eateries and take the boat across to the breathtaking sand bar beyond.
A golfers’ paradise, the Algarve boasts around 30 golf courses with hallmark rolling greens and sea views. If golf is your thing, opt for 3 nights at the Algarve Riad instead of (or as well as!) the Tavira Friary. Set in lush gardens near the coast, this luxury hotel has its own golf facilities and resident golf pro, whilst non-golfers can pamper themselves in the excellent spa and enjoy cookery lessons at the gourmet restaurant. If it’s a special trip, book the Visir Suite; an Arabian delight with its own garden and outdoor hottub.
Then leave the Algarve behind and head for the Alentejo on Portugal’s west coast where achingly beautiful, deserted golden sands, flower-carpeted countryside, crashing surf and tranquil lagoons await you. Meandering rivers snake through the hills with rickety windmills on their crests and sugarcube towns dotted on their banks. Spend 7 nights at the Portugal River Ranch, a fantastic boutique hotel with exquisitely decorated self-catering apartments and sumptuous double rooms. Soak up the sun on one of the many nearby beaches where the more adventurous can learn to surf or canoe. Bike or horse-ride through the Eucalyptus groves, take a jeep safari in the national park or a romantic boat ride along the coast. In the evenings enjoy a little low-key nightlife in the pretty coastal towns of Milfontes and Zambujiera, or tuck into some great home-cooking at the hotel’s private-dining restaurant.
Head for home from Faro airport, or, for an optional add-on, drive up to Lisbon, Portugal’s colourful capital, for a few nights in the city before flying back from Lisbon airport.
Don’t forget, all our holidays in Portugal are tailor-made, so you can opt to stay for longer or shorter periods in each place, add other regions to the itinerary or miss out certain parts all together. You can also choose different hotels from our selection in each region if you prefer.
